Marathon 2: Oorah!

Last weekend was insane. Friday night I drove to Raleigh, Saturday morning I flew to DC, Sunday morning I ran the Marine Corps Marathon, and Sunday evening I flew back to Raleigh, followed by Monday morning, when I got up at 4 a.m. to drive back.

I'm sure most of you want to know why I keep putting myself in this position. I can't really say. There is something about running around a city or town or place that makes it that much more special. It's just different than driving through. I feel like I got to experience DC, got to see how the city was laid out, the crazy traffic patterns, and at the end I did get a medal from a Marine as well as a government issue snack bag (slightly iffy).

What I noticed was this time around I ran slower but recovered faster. And I think that was because I was definitely undertrained. Besides starting a new job this year, I started work in an elementary school, which meant that by the end of September I had the H1N1 or swine flu or whatever it's called. This occurred when I was suppsoed to run 29 miles, and I wasn't able to run for 10 days afterwards.

But I also think that my next one will be better, now that I have a grasp on how to balance it. Bring it.
