Um, Mrs. R....he said....

Usually I post this stuff on FB, but this is long, detailed and not appropriate for everyone. Let me set up the scene: Typical afternoon Second grade class working on research skills using old school encyclopedias (I know I don't have to do it but looking up stuff in encyclopedias is so gratifying!) and some research questions, including a drawing of an animal. Animals covered: Cheetahs, Elephants, Deer, Squirrels, Lions, Tigers, Sharks. Student A is female, Student G is male. Table furthest away from me conversation: Reminder, this is a retelling. Student A: I can see Kevin's butt. Student G: Do you mean butt like his butt or but? Because my mom said there are two types. Student A: Two types? Student G: Yes, like "I have a can of soda BUT would like something else, or I see a butt." Student A: Well, I see a butt. Student G: Oh. Student A: You forgot the other kind Student G: What kind? Student A: Vergina. Student G: What's that? Student A: It's another name

Wedding Season Winds Down

So, this year was a busy year for us. I mean, really busy, right? If you weren't already aware, Matt and I got married (whoo-hoo Theme of Wedding, right?) and we also attended five weddings this year, culminating with one of Matt's really good friends getting married on Friday. When they first announced they were getting married on Friday, I was curious as to why. It meant people would have to take time off of work, and reorganize their schedules to be around for it. Once the wedding happened on Friday, I was completely pumped for Friday weddings! It was amazing to wake up on Saturday morning and realize it was Saturday, and we had time to do Saturday things. In other things I learned, I am now making a promise, that I will no longer request Africa by Toto at weddings which do not contain certain friends and/or librarians. The DJ was hesitant, I was insistent, and Matt was triumphant when he realized that he really had won the age-old debate over whether a single song selected

Gone with the Wind

We're going to pretend I never had this brief respite from blogging. Long story short- got a job in Raleigh, moved to Apex, M and I are getting married in May, and then I'm making the move to Cary. It's a crazy triangular world I live in. On the other hand, it's kind of perfect that I'm blogging almost exactly a year after my last post. Valentine's Day. And this year its going to be fantastic. For one thing, I'm not training for a marathon right now, so no 20 miler on V-day. For another, we now live in the same area. Most importantly, we're going to see "Gone with the Wind" tonight. Thats right- the 1939 classic film that won 10 Academy Awards. On the big screen. M has never seen it. I quote it constantly. It's time for this to mesh. Plus I figure after we're married for a while, he won't answer so positively to so many things I suggest. I haven't seen Gone with the Wind in a few years, but when I think about it, remember some
